This dual purpose 2-bank onboard charger is perfect for anyone with a 24V lithium and a 12V lead acid battery on the boat. Many boaters have a 24V lithium battery for their trolling motor and a 12V lead acid cranking battery for the motor. This onboard charger comes with an IP67 waterproof rating, meaning it is perfect for using in boats or other outdoor applications. Built into this charger is also a BMS wake-up function for batteries that reach the low voltage cut off protection mode.
Why use Lithium Chargers?
Standard lead acid batteries operate at a maximum voltage of about 12.7 volts. As a result, many standard chargers will only charge to this voltage. Our lithium batteries operate at a maximum voltage of 14.4 volts. This means standard chargers will not charge lithium batteries to full capacity. Depending on the lead acid charger, it may only charge to 60% to 80% of the batteries fully capacity.

If you have the proper charger, charging lithium batteries is no different than most other battery types. Any charger from us, or any charger with an AGM Charging profile will work perfect. Standard lead acid battery chargers will not allow you to maximize the performance of lithium batteries. Due to their lower operating voltage, a standard lead acid battery charger may only charge your Astro Lithium battery to 60% to 80% of its full potential. We strongly recommend a LiFePO4 rated charger to get the most out of your batteries.

To determine the charge time on your battery, take the total amp hour (Ah) rating and divide it by the amp rating of the charger.
For example: when using a 10AMP charger, a 54 Ah battery would take about 5.4 hours to charge from 0% to 100%.

LFP batteries are very safe. When we hear about lithium battery fires, those are related to other Lithium-Ion battery chemistries. Our batteries are Lithium Iron Phosphate and use a different chemistry that is much more stable.
Lithium iron phosphate has excellent thermal and chemical stability. These batteries stay cool in higher temperatures. They are also incombustible when mishandled during rapid charges and discharges or when there are short circuit issues. Lithium iron phosphate does not experience thermal runaway in the same way that other lithium-ion batteries do, as the phosphate cathode will not burn or explode during overcharging or overheating as the battery remains cool.
Extensive testing has shown that the ideal charge rate for lithium batteries is 1/3rd or less of the battery amp hour rating. So if you have a 54 Ah battery, we recommend using an 18 amp charger or less.
Our batteries are capable of faster charging but this may affect the long term performance of the battery when done excessively.
